Overview
My Deaf Community opened in February 2009 with the aim to provide information about anything deaf-related to anyone who is interested. We have developed a lot since that time gaining more experience and knowledge, but our aims have remained similar. One of our main aims is to promote equality through the provision of information and where possible, make that information free to all.
Any employer that has researched into getting their staff members deaf awareness training or british sign language training will have no doubt found that there is usually a significant cost involved in recruiting these services. We are currently working on several projects that will get simple training online, and free to download so that employers can at least give their staff a basic insight into providing the same service at the same level hearing people receive.
Other projects include giving a voice to the many gifted deaf writers out there so they can blog about the daily struggles, so that people can read about them and change their attitude. We are also looking to build a catalogue of British Sign Language training videos that will be free and available to all online.
My Deaf Community is one of the most popular deaf websites in the UK with over 700 people supporting us on Facebook and over 130 followers on Twitter. We have big plans to grow and we hope that you will be a part of that growth.
If you have any suggestions for us or would like to get involved, please get in touch by emailing admin@mydeafcommunity.co.uk.
